Sigs are variously used to give the poster's name plus a quote of the day, a one-line summary of the poster's attitude to life, the universe and everything, or just a disclaimer that although they are posting from work, what they say is nothing to do with their employer. Good newsreader software strips off sigs

After using it for about a week now I would say its _the_ newsreader for the newt! Go for this one!!! ah...and btw its the cheapest one! Stand Alone has promised an update to Paperboy later on in the week; I'd wait and check it out before spending your money. I do prefer the Ink Spot interface though.

As I understand it, the moderation software is designed to auto-moderate any poster and any thread which has not been flagged for hand-moderation, Right, or if you have a good newsreader, just delete the line that says 'references:' on it. BTW, the moderators only change subject lines to eliminate spoilers.

There has been a lack of good newsreader software for the Mac. There have been ports of other platforms' newsreaders and ports of MacOS 9 newsreaders, but that sort of thing hardly ever rises to the quality level people expect from "real" commercial software. If you put (say) MT-Newswatcher up next to Mail.app,

The example above is good; the discussion has shifted from "Airport LRT stop" to "OLLIE NORTH IS A HERO GOD BLESS RONNIE," and that discussion isn't appropriate for mtu-t, so the Followup-To: header redirects discussion to alt.idiots-for-reagan instead. Good newsreader software should respect the Followup-To:
