good newsreader software

Good Newsreader software?

I am currently using Outlook Express to view the newsgroups and it just seems, well, cumbersome I guess. Anyone suggest something else to use? Was thinking about Thunderbird but thought I would ask for people's opinions before I install anything. I'll be using the software from XP Also what would you suggest for using for the same purpose in Vista? I havent tried the Windows mail yet...

Bones, Windows Mail comes with the MS newsgroups already in it ;) (You just need to subscribe to them). Works better than OE IMHO.

I personally use Agent as my newsreader, it seems to work fine in Vista so far. It's availabe at www.forteinc.com

Some people like the jump on the Agent bandwagon, but I haven't like the changes they've made as of late. Thunderbird might server as a good alternative, but may want to check out MesNews and 40tude Dialog. Both have a nice feel to them and a features that Agent doesn't have yet. And they're free!

This is why I stand by Forte's Agent Newsreader and Email. I don't use Agent for email, since a large part of my email is HTML, and Agent won't properly render HTML, but it is THE top-of-the-line Usenet client. I've used it on my Windows boxes since it was first a public beta.
Now that I can dual-boot between OS X and XP (and hopefully, soon, Vista) on my Intel iMac, I use Agent exclusively for Usenet access.

Only a Mac fanatic would not be able to understand why Windows users prefer Agent for NNTP news.
Mike, if you prefer <SPACE> to do a single-key read, then good for you.
However, many Agent users normally just double-click on an article to download it. Older Unix junkies (and idiotic Mac fanatics like yourself) may like accelerator keys, but I certainly don't, and always prefer a mouse action over addressing the keyboard.
We use Agent for its rich feature set, not because we like the key-strokes it offers.
I thought Mac fanatics rave about OS X's lack of a "colorful" interface and its imagined "superior feature set". I guess you haven't paid your Apple dues lately, have you?

I know. My main computer has been a Mac since 2004. I was immediately struck by the lack of a decent Mac newsreader. I guarantee you that I personally tried EVERY Mac client in existence, except the console apps, and found EVERYONE of them lacking when compared to Agent.

Thank you, Steve Jobs, for selling me the BEST computer in the world to run Windows XP on, and thank you for enabling me to actually run XP on your machine. Your OS is a piece of crap, and was outmoded with OS 9, but my Apple Intel iMac is certainly a great XP machine.
